Over the past few days I’ve been trying to figure out how to include my Amazon Associates links into WordPress. There’s a few complicated explanations I found via Google, and there’s even software you can buy that’ll help you. After reading a few of the articles and following the instructions I was amased at how complicated it seemed, so I had a look at how I’d do it myself, and it ain’t that complicated.
So on the link here for “Stuff I Like” I’m putting up stuff I’ve bought and linked it to my Amazon account. I don’t really expect too many sales, but hey, it’s free money 😉 Take for example the kids swing I got for my wee one, it was good enough for me to recommend it to others. So here’s what I done to get linked to my Amazon account from WordPress:
1. Go to the Amazon page for your product and do two things:
a. Save the picture of the item to your local computer
b. (the complicated bit) Create a link to it using your Amazon Associates account (see Amazon for details on how to do this). I suggest the type of link you create is ‘Text Only’ You’ll see a bunch of html for your link, you’re only interested in one part of it, the part specified by the href, see below for my example:
<a href=”http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007PMF4?ie=UTF8&tag=myexample-21&linkCode=as2&camp=134&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B007PMF4“>TP201 Forest Single Swing 2</a><img src=”http://www.assoc-amazon.co.uk/e/ir?t=myexample-21&l=as2&o=2&a=B007PMF4″ width=”1″ height=”1″ border=”0″ alt=”” style=”border:none !important; margin:0px !important;” />
Copy the highlighted text from your link, without the brackets ” “.
2. In WordPress insert the picture you saved in 1a) and you should see the following options:
3. Put the rest of the text you want and that’s it!
It’s worked for me and seems a whole lot easier that the other articles I read.
